[0001] The present invention relates to a hitch ball clamping mechanism and a bicycle carrier comprising the same.
[0002] In general, in order to carry a bicycle when going out, the bicycle will be placed on a bicycle rack which must be connected to the car. In the conventional binding method, two clamp parts of the bicycle rack are applied to clamp a hitch ball of the car, and the hitch ball is pressed and fixed between the two clamp parts by a screw. This classic type of bicycle carrier is disclosed in the prior art, such as for example in application TWM464363.
[0003] However, this classic type of bicycle carrier requires the use of a screw (usually hand-tightened) to press the two clamp parts once the hitch ball is received between the two clamp parts, which requires labor to tighten the screw and does not provide reliable tightening.
[0004] The present invention therefore aims to avoid or at least attenuate the disadvantages mentioned above.
[0005] The main object of the present invention is to provide a hitch ball clamping mechanism, by which a hitch ball can be stably clamped and which can be quickly installed and uninstalled.
[0006] To achieve the above object, as well as other objects, the present invention relates to a hitch ball tightening mechanism, characterized by the fact that it comprises: a housing; a clamp assembly, comprising a first block and a second block which are rotatably attached to the housing, inside the latter, such that the first block and the second block are movable in a first direction and configured to tighten a hitch ball; an adjustment element, movably attached to the housing, at least one of the adjustment element, the first block and the second block comprising an inclined face where the adjustment element abuts on and pushes one from the first block and the second block to the other of the first block and the second block; a clamping structure, rotatably attached to the housing, which is rotatable between a first position and a second position; wherein, when the clamping structure is in the first position, the clamping structure does not urge one of the first block and the second block toward the other of the first block and the second block, and when the clamping structure is in the second position, the clamping structure urges one of the first block and the second block toward the other of the first block and the second block.
[0007] The angled face may be provided on a side of the first block opposite the second block, and when the clamping structure is in the second position, the clamping structure pushes a side of the second block which is opposite of the first block.
[0008] The housing may further include a guide slot provided therethrough, the guide slot extending in a second direction transverse to the first direction, the first block and the second block are rotatably connected to a guide shaft , and the guide shaft is slidably disposed within the guide slot.
[0009] The adjusting element can be screwed to the housing along the second direction, the adjusting element comprising an actuable part which is located on the second direction and projects out of the housing and a pushing part which is configured to come into abutment on and pushing one of the first block and the second block.
[0010] The sloping face may be integrally formed as part of the first block, extend in a direction away from the guide shaft, and gradually extend outward from the direction extending away from the guide shaft, and the adjustment member and the clamp structure are located at opposite sides of the clamp assembly in the first direction.
[0011] A guide element can be disposed inside the housing, the guide element extends along a third direction transverse to the first direction and to the second direction, the guide element comprises a threaded hole extending along the second direction, and the adjusting element is screwed into the threaded hole.
[0012] The first block and the second block may each have a clamping part and an assembly part which is traversed in the first direction by the guide shaft and is traversed in the first direction by a connecting element, and a tension is connected between the connecting elements of the first block and the second block so as to urge the first block and the second block to move opposite to each other.
[0013] A side of the first block that is opposite the second block may include a recessed portion, the clamping structure includes a protruding portion, and when the clamping structure is in the second position, the protruding portion is abutment against and inside the recessed part.
[0014] The clamping structure may comprise a lever element and an axle rotatably fixed to the housing, two ends of the axle respectively have a non-circular end, the lever element comprises two non-circular holes, each of said non-circular ends is inserted into the one of said non-circular holes, and the projecting part is provided on the axis in an eccentric manner.
[0015] The present invention also relates to a bicycle carrier, characterized in that it comprises the coupling ball tightening mechanism as defined above and that it further comprises a support, connected to the housing, comprising a holding part and a supporting part, the holding part comprising at least one holding device, the supporting part comprising at least one supporting element.

[0023] Referring to Figures 1 to 5, showing a preferred embodiment of the present invention, it can be seen that a hitch ball clamp mechanism comprises a housing 1, a clamp assembly 2, a adjuster 3 and a clamping structure 4.
[0024] The clamping assembly 2 comprises a first block 21 and a second block 22 which are rotatably fixed to the housing 1, and inside the latter, such that the first block 21 and the second block 22 are movable following a first direction L1 and configured to tighten a coupling ball.
[0025] The adjustment element 3 is movably fixed to the casing 1. At least one of the adjustment element 3, the first block 21 and the second block 22 comprises an inclined face 23 where the adjustment element 3 comes abutment and pushes one of the first block 21 and the second block 22 towards the other of the first block 21 and the second block 22. In this embodiment, the inclined face 23 is located on one side of the first block 21 at opposite the second block 22. By means of the adjustment element 3 moving towards or away from the inclined face 23, the first block 21 and the second block 22 can be caused to approach the each other or to move away from each other. In this embodiment, a movement of the adjustment element 3 towards the inclined face 23 pushes the first block 21 towards the second block 22 so that the relative position of the first block 21 and the second block 22 can be adjusted to adapt to hitch balls of different diameters.
[0026] The clamping structure 4 is rotatably fixed to the housing 1 and is rotatable between a first position and a second position.
[0027] When the clamping structure 4 is in the first position, the clamping structure 4 does not push one of the first block 21 and the second block 22 towards the other of the first block 21 and the second block 22; when the clamping structure 4 is in the second position, the clamping structure 4 pushes one of the first block 21 and the second block 22 towards the other of the first block 21 and the second block 22. In operation, when the clamping structure 4 is in the first position, the hitch ball can be inserted into or removed from the hitch ball clamping mechanism; when the clamping structure 4 is in the second position, the clamping structure 4 pushes one side of the second block 22 away from the first block 21, towards the first block 21, and the first block 21 and the second block 22 are pushed closer together in the first direction L1, which allows the hitch ball to be firmly clamped.
[0028] In particular, the housing 1 further comprises a guide slot 11 provided therethrough, the guide slot 11 extends along a second direction L2 transverse to the first direction L1, the first block 21 and the second block 22 are rotatably connected to a guide shaft 12, and the guide shaft 12 is slidably disposed within the guide slot 11, thereby allowing relative movement of the first block 21 and the second block 22 for the introduction of the coupling ball.
[0029] Preferably, the adjustment element 3 is screwed to the casing 1 in the second direction L2, and the adjustment element 3 comprises an operable part 31 which is located on the second direction L2 and projects out of the casing 1 and a 32 which is configured to abut and push one of the first block 21 and the second block 22. In this embodiment, the actuatable portion 31 includes a hexagonal head for easy attachment of a tool coaching. The actuatable part 31 is close to the guide shaft 12, the pushing part 32 is close to the inclined face 23, the pushing part 32 is configured to abut on and push the inclined face 23 to push the first block 21 to move to the second block 22.
[0030] In this embodiment, the inclined face 23 is integrally formed as part of the first block 21 and extends in a direction away from the guide shaft 12 and gradually extends towards outside with respect to the direction opposite to the guide shaft 12, which provides a good pushing effect. The adjusting element 3 and the clamping structure 4 are located on opposite sides of the clamping assembly 2 along the first direction L1, and thus the coupling ball can be clamped stably.
[0031] In addition, a guide element 13 is arranged inside the housing 1, the guide element 13 extends along a third direction L3 transverse to the first direction L1 and to the second direction L2, the guide element 13 comprises a threaded hole 311 extending along the second direction L2, and the adjustment element 3 is screwed into the threaded hole 311, to guide the adjustment element 3 along the second direction L2. In this embodiment, the first direction L1 and the third direction L3 belong to a horizontal plane, and the second direction L2 belongs to a vertical plane. The clamping structure 4 forces the first block 21 and the second block 22 horizontally, thereby preventing the hitch ball from swinging horizontally or disengaging from the hitch ball clamping mechanism due to a acceleration or braking; the adjustment element 3 pushes the inclined face 23 vertically, which makes it possible to prevent the first block 21 and the second block 22 from disengaging with respect to the coupling ball. Therefore, the adjustment element 3 and the clamping structure 4 can effectively prevent loosening of the first block 21 and the second block 22.
[0032] The first block 21 and the second block 22 each have a clamping part 24, substantially hemispherical, and an assembly part 25 which is crossed in the first direction L1 by the guide shaft 12 and is crossed in the first direction L1 by a connecting element 51, and a tension spring 52 is connected between the connecting elements 51 of the first block 21 and the second block 22 so as to urge the first block 21 and the second block 22 opposite each other the other. [0033] A side of the first block 21 opposite the second block 22 includes a recessed portion 26, the clamping structure 4 includes a protruding portion 41, and when the clamping structure 4 is in the second position, the protruding portion 41 abuts against and within recessed portion 26, whereby projecting portion 41 can lift recessed portion 26 together with first block 21, second block 22 and guide shaft 12 along of the guide slot 11 to securely clamp the hitch ball when the clamping structure 4 is moved down to the second position. In particular, the clamping structure 4 comprises a lever element 42 and a shaft 43 rotatably fixed to the housing 1, two ends of the shaft 43 respectively have a non-circular end 431, the lever element 42 comprises two non-circular holes 421 , each of said non-circular ends 431 is introduced into one of said non-circular holes 421, and the projecting part 41 is provided on the axis 43 in an eccentric manner, whereby the lever element 42 is capable of rotating around the axis 43 and the projecting part 41 can be easily driven to cause the first block 21 and the second block 22 to approach each other.
[0034] The invention also relates to a bicycle carrier 9. The bicycle carrier 9 comprises the hitch ball clamping mechanism and further comprises a bracket 91. The bracket 91 is connected to the housing 1, the bracket 91 comprises a part of holding part 92 and a support part 93, the holding part 92 comprises at least one holding device 94 and the supporting part 93 comprises at least one carrying element 95. Preferably, the holding part 92 comprises a plurality of said holder 94 and the support part 93 comprises a plurality of said carrying elements 95, which can carry one or more bicycles.

Hitch ball tightening mechanism, characterized by the fact that it comprises:a housing (1); a clamping assembly (2), comprising a first block (21) and a second block (22) which are rotatably fixed to the housing (1), inside the latter, such that the first block ( 21) and the second block (22) are movable in a first direction (L1) and configured to tighten a coupling ball; an adjustment element (3), movably fixed to the casing (1), at least one of the adjustment element (3), the first block (21) and the second block (22) comprising an inclined face (23) where the adjustment member (3) abuts and pushes one of the first block (21) and the second block (22) towards the other of the first block (21) and the second block (22 ); and a clamping structure (4), rotatably fixed to the housing (1), which is rotatable between a first position and a second position; wherein when the clamping structure (4) is in the first position, the clamping structure (4) does not push one of the first block (21) and the second block (22) toward the other of the first block (21) and the second block (22), and when the clamping structure (4) is in the second position, the clamping structure (4) pushes one of the first block (21) and the second block ( 22) towards the other of the first block (21) and the second block (22).
